Tips to Make Edius Run Faster or Smoother
1. Make sure that your virus protection software is disabled while you are editing.  Some virus protection software will try and analyze every media file that you try to access and examine it to make sure that it is virus free, slowing down Edius.  If you are afraid of catching a virus disconnect from the Internet, while you are editing.  If possible, it is a good idea to use a completely separate computer to do your emailing and browsing.  The only time that you really need to have your edit computer connected to the Internet is to download legitimate software, get software updates, validate licenses,  or upload a proof to a client.

2. Avoid downloading "crapware" to your edit system.  Ideally your edit system should only have Edius, Adobe Creative suite, legitimate encoding software, such as Procoder, or TMPG, a good virus protection program and a couple of browsers.  I don't even install Office software to my edit system.  Do all that on another computer, if possible.

3. Make sure that you have set up a fast read/write to disc system.  With today's large video size formats, you will probably want to set up a RIAD or at least be able to use one of the new faster protocols, such as USB3

4. Make sure that your edit computer meets the minimum system requirements, listed herehttp://www.grassvalley.com/products/edius_6 (http://www.grassvalley.com/products/edius_6). Of course the faster your processor, and the more robust your video card is,  the smother your ride will be!

5. Use Windows 7 Ultimate, 64 bit, for best performance

6. Optimise Windows 7 for use with Edius, with the tested and proven settings that have been worked out and provided by seasoned Edius editor, Anton Strauss.  You can find his settings listed herehttp://www.videoproductions.com.au/html/win7-tips.html (http://www.videoproductions.com.au/html/win7-tips.html).

7. If you find that your video still stutters and does not play in real time, batch convert your media to Canopus AVI files.  Select all the media in your bin that you want to convert, right click on any selected clip, and choose Convert/ File(batch), from the drop down menu. Make sure that the "save as type" is set to Canopus HQ On-line Quality, and that you have lots of room on your destination drive, as these AVI files are large!
